HowTo Remove FoxTab Completely from FireFox
« on: October 09, 2014, 09:45:52 AM »
Hello Everyone,

FoxTab is one of those browser hijackers, it's hard to believe that it is well spread around by freeware such as FileZilla (SHAME ON YOU FILEZILLA!!!). You can uninstall FoxTab from programs as they suggest, but you will always have a new tab in the foxtab style and certain extensions/addons loaded while "uninstalled".

Solution is simple!

0. Exit Firefox
1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Enter "%APPDATA%" without the quotes and hit enter
4. Move the directory "Extensions" to another location
5. Move "addons.json" and "addons.sqlite"

This method works not only for FoxTab but also for a lot of other malicious addon, extensions, browser hijackers.

Ah yes, only Windows users are a target for this malware! :)

Most likely because they are the best and largest group to target the malware at :)

Figures, given the market share. Macs do get malware as well, dispelling the myth of not needing to have an antivirus, but while there have been high-profile cases of worms and exploits, Windows is even more of a Moby Dick to target.

Indeed, basically every system that is used a lot is potentially interesting to hack simply due the fact there are many of the system :)

I got hit this morning when I needed quickly a ftp client, clicked a few times next because I trusted FileZilla :android-ninja:

One point where Linux scores, if I need an ftp client it is as quick as "apt install filezilla" and nowt else is installed, I don't even need to go looking for it.
